This
is my dog, Molly. She's a little over a year old and she's a mix of
pit bull and some other type of terrier, we don't know what. Molly is my
best friend. She has a lazy eye and hip displasia and has yet to show that
either of those things have altered her happiness in any way. She's a
lover and an extreme snuggler. I don't mean like 'awe, that dog is sitting
by it's owner' snuggler. I mean she will appear out of nowhere and slam
her entire body against mine, taking a few minutes to slowly but surely
slide down to the side so that there is absolutely no chance that there
will be any type of measurable space between us and promptly falls into a
deep sleep that only Snausages can bring her out of.
The one thing that I really really love about Molly is that other people
love her too. Molly has this huge, noticeable smile that rarely leaves her
face and this ungodly giant tongue that she uses to kiss the heck out of
anyone who gets close enough to her head. I knew from the second her
little crooked eyes locked with mine that out of all the puppies in that
box, she was the one for me.
Training Molly was a disaster for all my own faults. The first trick Molly
ever learned was to high five. I made the mistake of teaching her with
human food which I pay for every day. She interpreted her adorable trick
as some type of power. Every time I have a plate of food lower than table
level, Molly will forcibly high five me in the shoulder or the hands over
and over and over again, expecting to receive her share of the plate
eventually.
My next mistake was teaching her sit and lay down in the same week. I
don't believe she ever really learned the difference between the two
commands. I say this because any time I say Sit! Molly will rapidly sit
and then lay down and then sit and then lay down like little puppy push
ups until I feel bad enough to give her the treat.
As I type this, I'm looking down and seeing her head jammed into my side
as tightly as it possibly could, I wouldn't change her tricks for the
world. She's very sure she's doing them right and I would don't think it'd
be fair to say otherwise :)!
