Galileo
is a purebred Cane Corso (Italian Mastiff). Corsi are new to the
US and were just accepted into the American Kennel Club July 2010. I take
Galileo to shows where he competes in conformation (how the dog looks) and
obedience. His is six points away from earning his Champion title in
conformation and already has three titles in obedience. Soon we're
starting classes in agility because he loves to jump and be physical.
Cane Corsos can range in size any where from 100 pound to 150 pound. They're
part of the mastiff family and are related to English Mastiffs, Bull
Mastiffs, and the Neapolitan Mastiff. The breed originated in Italy and
has been used for many different jobs including protection, guard work,
herding, and carting. The well trained Cane Corso is gentle when with his
family and children, but can be a fierce guardian if their loved ones are threatened.
Galileo loves to play with children, cats and other small animals. When
Galileo isn't practicing for his shows, he spends his time with his girl
(me!) and his dog friends, Bronte and Val. His favorite thing to do is go
to the woods and jump over logs, so I think agility will be great fun for him.
