I
rescued Bentley two years ago from Eleventh Hour Rescue in Rockaway, New
Jersey. He was surrendered to them at six months of age, because the owner
said he showed signs of aggression and hit him. After being evaluated by
the volunteers with Eleventh Hour, it was determined that Bentley was not
aggressive at all. He just needed some extra special love and attention.
Catahoulas are a working breed, so Bentley has no desire to be a couch
potato! Although we did encounter some hurdles in the last two years,
Bentley has transformed into a wonderful pet and companion. We are in the
process of getting ready for his first (of hopefully many) obedience
trials.
He is very independent, but also a momma's boy. He has a favorite blanket
that he keeps with him in the house all the time. His favorite spot is on
the back of the couch, looking out the front window. He'll lay there for
hours! It takes him a little while to trust new humans, but once he
realizes you're okay, he loves you. You just have to let him come to you
on his terms. He loves to go on hikes and in the summer he loves to swim.
Lakes, ocean, swimming pool ... he loves it all! He doesn't really do any
tricks, other then letting himself in the refrigerator, but that's not
something he's trained to do. It's more like a bad habit we're trying to
break. His obedience skills are outstanding and he loves to practice. We
go to an advanced class once a week, where he continues to learn new things.
