I
adopted Sophie in high school. It was love at first sight. My parents
let me take her home from the rescue clinic on a one-night trial and she
became family the minute she stepped in the door. We were told she was a
lab mix, but as she got older it became obvious she was mixed with Pit
Bull. She is proof that not all Pits are bad. Sophie has the sweetest
temperament and is incredibly obedient (unless there is a squirrel
nearby). She enjoys playing ball, or just eating tennis balls, swimming,
car and golf cart rides, giving high fives, and teaching my foster puppies
how to be good puppies.
It wasn't until I was a sophomore in college that I realized how special
Sophie truly was to me. My freshman year I developed an anxiety disorder
that quickly became unbearable. My family had the idea that because Sophie
was going through such bad separation anxiety from being away from me and
I was having a hard time un-stressing my life, that Sophie should come
live with me. So sophomore year I packed her up with my bags to go to
college. She provided me with a sense of ease even on the first night.
She's there for me through every accomplishment, every tear, every
heartache, and every test. She even picks up on when I'm feeling extra
stressed and lays her head in my lap, reminding me I'm not alone. She's
the best.
