Huck
is a charming and fun young dog who loves to compete in agility, hike
the hills and mountains of California and is also a Certified Therapy Dog.
Huck is one of the sweetest dogs you would ever want to meet. He has the
awesome ability to show empathy and read people and know when they really
need him. It is what makes him a stand out as a therapy dog. One day at
the assisted living where I work and I take Huck with me, a woman and her
young daughter walked in the doors to visit a resident. The woman signs in
and Huck jumps on the desk to say hello, his normal routine for visiting
with people as they come in. The woman starts talking to him and picks up
her daughter and they both start loving on him and the little girl gave
him a hug and a kiss. They walk to the elevator and Huck watched them
until the doors closed. When they come back up they ask about Huck again
and once more he jumps up to see them. The woman gives him a big hug and
tells me the story about how they lost their family dog of fourteen just last
week. They want to get down on the floor and visit with Huck so they walk
in the back to the office and get on the floor with him and he leans on
the mother and gives the little girl gentle kisses on her face. The mother
starts to cry and Huck put his head on her chest and she hugged him. She
holds his head in her hands and thanks him for letting her cry and kisses
him on his very kissable place right between his eyes. He just closed his
eyes and let her love him.
He brings such comfort to those who need it and is truly an amazing little
dog with the ability to be an awesome therapy dog but then the next day
rock the agility field with blazing fast times and accuracy on even the
toughest course. He is a one in a million and I truly feel blessed to have
such an awesome little dog as a good will ambassador for his breed as well
as my beloved companion and pet.
