For
a ten-year-old Golden, this dog is a stitch! Dusty has over fifty stuffed
toys, as you could probably tell from the photo, and we've given each one
a name. Dusty can find each toy, by name when we tell him to go get that
toy! He loves other dogs and children and just wants to be petted all the
time. He has his own pickup truck, although I have to do the driving.
He'll ride in the back seat and when we get home, he refuses to get out of
the truck. He'll spend hours in the truck, with the side doors open,
taking naps and watching the neighbors pass by.
He's a great 'mouse hunter.' We have a cabin in the mountains and on every
visit, he'll spend some time looking for and actually alerting to any type
of creature he might 'sniff' underneath the cabin and elsewhere. His
routine in the morning when we wake up is to hop up on the bed, with a
stuffed animal; roll over on his back and catch a few zzzzzzz's until it's
time for his small bowl of Cheerios. He also loves being groomed (his
previous owner was a breeder and Dusty was his personal pet), so he must
have received some very good treatment.
We hide some of his stuffed animals inside some cabinets throughout the
house and he knows how to open the cabinet doors and pull out that
particular toy. (We periodically restock the cabinets when he's not
looking). Going to the fast food restaurants' drive through windows, he is
totally mesmerized with the process of passing a green piece of paper to
the person through the window, and then a brown bag is handed over to us,
with food in it! We call it the 'magic window' and he looks forward to
stopping at it all the time.
Aside from that, he is a great companion and is enjoying his twilight
years being the center of attention!
