As
with most people, words cannot describe how wonderful or special their
pets are. Bo was an incredible friend and protector for our home and us.
Not too typical for the breed, he was very protective (especially of my
wife), he would always stand stoutly between us and anyone else until he
knew you were OK.
Like all labs, he lived for the water when he was young. He loved going
under water to retrieve rocks and such, once even pulling in a cinder
block (thankfully there was no boat attached to it...).
Bo was a big boy at his peak (around 110 pounds). He was also the smartest
dog we ever owned, learning many tricks in two or three tries. He also fought
his whole life to stay healthy. The poor guy went thru eight operations (both
ACL's, cancer, etc...) but always bounced back. He was incredibly tough
and able to recover from almost everything - except his old age.
Bo and I were best friends, he was the most loyal dog we have ever
owned. I would constantly catch him simply staring at me at me and I miss
that the most. He never left my side. Every night when I exercised, he
would lie next to me and chew his bone, occasionally using his paw to hold
me head on the floor so he could lick me... never letting those
beautiful, emotion-filled eyes leave me.
Bo came into my life just before the toughest time of my life, got me
through the loss of a brother and father, but then he couldn't go on any
farther, and we had to let him go. I have a brutal time just typing this,
we miss him sooo much. Bo happily adapted to having a friend (Sammy, a
black lab). Sam occasionally goes and lies on Bo's bed, but he is helping
us greatly with our grief.
I'll say again- words cannot describe how wonderful, smart and loyal he
was... or how much we miss him... Our Dear friend Bo-we love you, we will
see you again at Rainbow Bridge... bring a tennis ball with you!
