This
Fourth of July weekend marked three years since we found Phoebe - or
she found us. Coming home from the gym early Sunday morning, I saw this
skinny, scared dog running down a major street. When I flipped around to
pick her up, she rolled onto her back in complete submission; although we
took her to the pound in case someone was trying to find her, we returned
for a Finder Adoption when the three days were up.
Her first few weeks and months were challenging, as she met our other dogs
(and quickly established herself as the alpha), and overcame serious
separation anxiety that manifested in a torn up couch cushion once and
tossed around trash a few times. She continues to snag our clothes when
possible, but no longer to shred - she just wants to snuggle and roll
around with them to get people smell.
Phoebe is filled with love and enthusiasm. She must greet my husband and
me whenever we come home, giving us kisses and nibbling on our lips when
we enter from the garage. Since I work at home most days, she keeps an eye
on me, following me from the office to the bathroom to the kitchen or even
outside in the hot desert air. Every morning, she stretches out right next
to me, puts her paws on either side of my head and kisses me good morning;
at night, she snuggles by the pillow and rests her head on my hands to say
goodnight. Even if I'm just watching television in the evening when my
husband is at work, she wants to stay near, curling up in his La-Z-Boy
recliner with a favorite toy, even rolling upside down to show off her belly.
She's my Dog of the Day every day, and I look forward to the good times
ahead with my Phoebe girl.
