Jayda,
also known as Jaydakiss, Jingle Bells, Baby Girl, is the Alpha, the
Boss of our other five dogs. Jayda is an Italian Greyhound, age four. We do have
another IG, a male, named Max, also age four, and we have three Whippets, and a
Weimaraner.
Jayda is the diva of the home. If any dog is paying too much attention to
me or my Partner, Jayda will simply get in between the other dog and me,
or us, and push them back.
Jayda's Favorite thing to do besides Sleep (being in the Greyhound family,
that's what they "all love" to do the most) is being couch potatoes. Next
on the list would be going for rides in the SUV. Now, many in the
greyhound breed find their dogs get car sick. Not ours, at all. I think
this is because from a very young age they have always gone with us on
short ventures and realized the end result was a fun experience. The Dog
Park is the most favorite place for all the dogs to go.
A few months after we had Jayda, we were seeing her run around the home
all by herself. We did have two much larger dogs that were not interested
in that type of playing. We decided to get Jayda a "friend" of her own
size. Along came Max, another Italian Greyhound, still a puppy. It was a
perfect match for Jayda, she now had a little brother to pick on. Since
then, the two of them have been inseparable, as I have very few pictures of
just Jayda by herself. The greyhound family in general loves to snuggle,
whether it's with their Human Parents, or just in a Big Ol' Puppy Pile.
Now the greyhound breed may not be for just anyone, whether it's the
Italians, Whippets or the full size Greyhound. A fenced in yard is a must,
first of all, as is not being away from home for too long, because they
love their people's company. Italian Greyhounds are not recommended for
families with very small children, though, because they have such delicate
bones when they are puppies.
Jayda would like to remind everyone that anytime you think a dog, or pet
of any kind is something you want in your life, do research as to what
your needs are, along with theirs, it's only fair.
