How
do you describe a Samoyed? Well Mawson to me personifies kindness and
extreme good nature. He is my third Samoyed dog but my first male. Before
Mawson we had his great aunt, Meringue. We have had him now for almost five
years and I could not fault him. Like all Sams he has the smiley dog
nature and is kind to the whole family including the cats and guinea pigs.
He has been very good for our son with autism, as he is very much in your
face and demands interaction and attention.
Mawson is named after the famous Australian polar explorer Douglas Mawson
as he is a dog breed from the polar regions. We thought of Shackleton but
he was an English polar explorer. Mawson was the better choice as Mawson
is an Aussie dog and mate. He is my best mate as well as being a great
walking companion. You have to take him for a walk as he demands it so he
ensures I get some good exercise whatever the weather. He want you to play
ball with him though he has not yet got the idea that you should drop the
ball if you want the woman to throw the ball for you.
He looks like a large cuddly teddy bear and he wants cuddles and endless
affection even when you can no longer do it for him. However he is also
happy just to be with you sleeping or just sitting on the bed when you are
reading. Mawson enjoys being in the present but he wants your company in
the present and will also tolerate the cats being with me. The only
drawback about smiley dogs is the endless grooming so he stays clean and
looked after. However, as I love Mawson, what's a bit of grooming between
friends? Mawson the wonder puppy, my best mate.
