Gracie
came to our family when she was three years old and our lives have
not been the same since. When my husband saw her for the first time, he
though she was a puppy because she was so small. The person that had
her wanted him to adopt her because he could not afford to take give her
the care she needed. He had taken her away from someone that was not
caring for her. I kept putting him off because we had just adopted
another Saint Bernard not a couple weeks before she came into the
picture. After a couple of months of convincing, I finally agreed to do
a trial weekend. If she got along with our other dogs, we would keep
her. When she go out of the car, I could not believe what she looked
like. I knew at that point she was never going to leave our home no
matter what happened. She was bald from the middle of her back to the
tip of her tail, skinny and could barely open her eyes from an
infection. I took her to the vet right away and she weighed barely over
100 pounds and had a severe skin infection that was caused by fleas! If
the previous owner would have only given her flea prevention she would
not be have been in the shape she was.
Now, five years later, she is one of the happiest dogs I have ever seen.
Her tail wags all of the time, she just enjoys life to the fullest and
she makes us smile all of the time. Gracie has a fifteen-year-old brother,
Tucker (black Lab), her little sister Riley (German Shepherd) and her
"boy" Benjamin (Saint Bernard). She is now a healthy 125 pounds and her
coat has grown back thick and beautiful. She spends her time traveling
between her home and her vacation home with her family.
People say that Gracie was really lucky to find us, but we are the lucky ones.
