One
day fourteen years ago Sweet Sunny (and her sis) was taken to the pound
because the twins they were given to didn't walk them one day. Apparently
their Dad said if they faltered on their responsibilities the dogs would
be taken away. Sunny ran up to me in the kennel at the pound. They always
do - pick us that is! She is a grateful soul as am I. I had lost my
Dalmatian a month before in a divorce and Sunny filled the void! I am
forever indebted to this sweet soul for being by my side through cancer,
divorce, through it all! my incredible companion!
Sunny was very active, a typical Dal in her younger years but as she's
entered into her golden years she's chillin'. LOL She lounges a lot! She
is a very sweet girl. I think rescued dogs are grateful souls and you can
definitely tell Sunny is a grateful soul. She loves the Sun. Loves being
warm. When there is a fire in the fireplace she will sleep on the hearth.
Not on the floor in front but inches away. I start to smell something and
in the middle of a deep sleep I am forced to move her!!! Yep, she loves
the heat. Summer in the South seems to be exactly where she was meant to
be. She's both independent and affectionate. She grew up with me working
retail which had me working long hours. So she's used to self
entertainment. We had another sweet dog during our fourteen years together and she
gets along well with others but she sure prefers me to herself! She only
knows the important tricks like Kisses and Rolling over (so she can get my
tummy rubbed). ;-) After this long together (I am single) she and I pretty
much have our own communication. Not sure if she is deaf (now or has been
all along-Dals accommodate so well) but She will respond to my actions
without words. Guess that's like any old married couple, huh?
This picture was her first boat ride. She jumped right up on the seat as
if to say, "Let's Go!" Not bothered in the least by the swaying of the
boat. Maybe she was born with sea legs! Salty Dog!
