My
dog's name is Cindy and she is an 80 pound, fourteen-year-old mixed
breed Husky (possibly a Malamute mix or Native American Indian Dog). I
first found her seven years ago at the humane society. Another lady was
crouching in front of her kennel trying to coax her to the front but she
wouldn't come to her, so when she gave up and left I went to look and I
was instantly smitten. I called to her and she came right up to me and
laid down and let me pet her and we have been together ever since. At
first she was very shy, food aggressive, undersocialized and didn't want
to come inside the house. But I worked with her every day and she was able
to overcome her behavior problems. I also began taking her to lots of
places to meet new people and dogs. She even has a best doggie friend
named Vinny that she plays with all the time.
Cindy is special for many reasons. Cindy not only overcame her behavior
problems with flying colors, she now helps other dogs too! Since I am a
dog trainer, she comes to work with me and assists me in my puppy and
basic obedience classes as a demo dog. She also helps other shy dogs come
out of their shells with her gentle nature. Cindy may be in her golden
years, but they are exactly that... Golden! Cindy is healthy, energetic,
and always learning new things. Cindy has been through movie set training
classes and just recently became a Service Dog after I injured my back.
Cindy's education never stops. She is proof that old dogs can learn new
tricks! In fact, she learns at least one new trick a week and goes to new
places all the time. She has conquered things like elevators, riding the
bus, going to the mall, and more! I consider Cindy to be my little miracle
dog. She went from being a shy pound pup to being my best friend and now
my biggest helper going everywhere with me, including school! The teachers
enjoy having her in class and the other students always tell me how much
they love her.
Cindy is also unique in that she is a paranormal investigator! She goes
ghost hunting with me and my team, the So Cal Ghost Crew. She is an
invaluable member of the team, using her superior senses to alert us to
things we may not see or hear. Cindy is fearless, always venturing into
the unknown!
Even though she is fourteen years old, you would never even know it. She has the
same energy level that she did when I first got her and she still has yet
to show her age. Her veterinarian is stunned with her health and expects
that she still has many years to go and many more smiles to bring to
people's faces. With a high quality dog food, lots of exercise, and
activities to exercise the mind, your dog can live a long healthy life
just like Cindy!
