Jared
is a Norwegian Elkhound and will be two years this May 31st.
Norwegian Elkhounds are also known as "Moosedogs" or Dog of the Vikings.
They were bred to hunt moose or elk and the breed is approximately 5000
years old and originated in Norway. Jared came to us at three months as a
foster, he is now doing conformation shows and has won many blue ribbons.
He shares his home with two other elkhounds and one husky and a cat named Mr
Moose.
Jared is a sweet soul, kind and full of mischief, he has races around the
dining room table with Mr Moose kitty, to distract Mr Moose and then heads
for the cat food, but gets cut off at the pass cause the cat is faster and
smarter! He enjoys his play time with all the dogs, he instigates tug
games with Kate, an elkhound and Ashley the husky, they all race around
the pen and play "tag, I got ya".
Jared knows a lot of commands, sit, down, stay, catch, stand. He adores
his Beggin Strips and goes into a talking mode if he sees one, he should
be in the commcercials. His favorite season is a good snowy winter, when
he goes nose down and slides through the snow, in typical elkhound fashion.
