Two
months after my Boston Terrier Stella died, a purebred Dachshund came
into our yard. We live on five acres in the woods so I was quite surprised
to see this dog show up. He had a collar and tag on so I called the
telephone number on the tag and the lady told me it was not her dog and
that she only has two poodles. Seventeen days later after putting up
posters and posting a "Lost" ad in the local paper our neighbor on the
next five acres asked us if we found a Dachshund. She told us his name was
Powwow and that the dog belonged to her mother who was now in a nursing
home and that we could have him. Since Stella was now gone, with a little
play on words, I named Stanley Powwowski after Stanley Kowalski from
"Street Car Named Desire."
Stanley is a wonderful addition to our home with eight cats. He plays
outside all day with the cats and sleeps in the shade with them. Stanley
doesn't know what a toy because the cats are his toys. Stan is a one
person dog, he snaps at my husband when we try to kiss. Stan loves to
sleep under the covers when we let him and it's always between us, nice
and cozy.
