This
is my girl Roxie at the UKC Nationals held a couple of weeks ago, weight
pulling her heart out for me, a competition that I and my dog love to
participate in. There are many different organizations that hold these type
of weight pulling competitions all over the world and it really forms an
awesome bond between owner and dog. At this event she was working towards her
UWP title of which she received two qualifying legs, needs one more. I
strongly encourage people to get involved with their dogs in some kind of
outdoor activity even if it's just daily walks as we all know dogs love to
exercise too!
Roxie is a big old lap dog - 85 pounds, but she thinks she is about 10lbs and
sees no reason why she won't fit literally in your lap. She loves her tennis
balls and tug rope when we are not training for any dog shows. She will try
and anticipate what trick you are going to ask of her when treats are
involved and try to perform all she knows back to back, which are shake left
or shake right, high five, speak and play dead. Roxie is a bit of a drama
queen and loves to show off!
Most importantly she has unconditional love for both people and other dogs,
which makes me very proud of her since the Am Pit Bull breed tends to get a
lot more negative publicity rather than positive. I look forward to the many
more years I have ahead of me to spend with my girl - Roxie as well.
She currently shares her living quarters with her little brother, Sir, who
also is an APBT and at seven months of age keeps Roxie on her toes. They get
along famously, but he certainly can be the annoying little brother to his
big sis at times and she sure shows her patience with him.
