Pudge
was originally to be my sister's dog. My sister got Pudge from a friend
who said she was a Chihuahua, Toy Fox Terrier mix. My little Pudgie got her
name because she was the fattest little pup of her litter. Her name has since
become ironic because she is so skinny you can see her backbone (even though
she eats all the time). When my sister brought Pudge home, the little pup
decided she preferred me over my sister. My sister has always been more of a
cat person anyways.
About a year and a half later, I brought home my kitten. Pudge would curl up
with the kitten and nurse her as though she was the kittens mommy (even though
she wasn't producing milk). I have since moved out of my parents' house and
married my husband and we have had our son. My husband and I took Pudge to the
vet and the vet suggested she's a Chinese Crested, Chihuahua mix due to color
markings and the fact that her hair is so thin you can see her skin through it.
When my cat had kittens, she ignored them when she wasn't nursing them. This
is where Pudge stepped in. She would lay in bed with the kittens to keep them
warm. She would even lick them clean. We couldn't keep the kittens because our
other dog kept trying to eat them. We gave them all to someone we knew. Pudge
and cat (the mother of the kittens) are still friends. They get along and play
together all the time.
When I had my son, who is now two and half months old, Pudge was jealous of him.
She was my #1 before he was born and she couldn't understand why someone else
was in my lap. Now she gives him kisses all the time. When my son is not in my
arms, she jumps in to take his place.
Pudge sleeps in bed with my husband and I. She likes to sleep under the
blankets and in between us both. Even when we're in the living room during the
day, she would be glad to curl up under a blanket to keep warm. Pudge hates
going outside in the rain or snow. She will turn around and stare at you
wondering why you made her go out there. You have to tell her time and time
again just to get her to go potty out there. She wears a coat in the winter
because she has almost no hair and gets cold easy.
She likes it when you sing the "Fuzzy Wuzzy Was A Bear"... "Fuzzy Wuzzy Had
No Hair"... song to her, but you have to change it to pertain to her...
"Pudgie Wudgie Was A Bear"... "Pudgie Wudgie Has Not Much Hair"... she loves
it and wags her tail and jumps up on your leg. She will howl with you if you
do it. And sometimes it even sounds like she says "I Love You" when she's
howling with you. I don't know what I would do if I lost this little dog. I
love her to pieces.
