The Rifleman a.k.a. "Connor" is named after the earliest TV show
to feature a widowed man raising his young son alone in a Western series
back in 1958. I named Connor after that western series because his
father's name is Golden W Billy The Kidd and his mother's name is
Imperials Leading Lady. I wanted to capture both the western theme and the
acting theme in his registered name.
Connor caught my attention from birth. He is a lovely sable merle color.
As Connor matures his coat will have areas of darker sable patches on his
light tan coat. I watched him grow up on the Imperial Sheltie Web site
owned by a special friend of mine. I wrote my friend and told her of my
interest in adding a puppy to my family of four Shelties and one senior
Border Collie. My friend replied to tell me of two male puppies she had
available. One was Connor known as Cassidy at that point. I was thrilled.
I wrote my friend back and told her of my interest in Cassidy. My friend
called me and we had an informal interview over the phone. Then I
bombarded her with e-mails. LOL! She called me back and we talked some
more before it was decided that Cassidy would become "Connor." I was
beside myself with delight at that turn of events.
Connor came through special delivery via US Airways. My friend's husband
hand delivered him to me. To say I was excited does not adequately
describe the emotion I felt when first holding Connor in my arms. I was
ecstatic!! Connor has fit into our home like an old chair or your favorite
pair of slippers. By the way, you better have your slippers on when
entering the kitchen/playroom where Connor is growing up right now. He
loves toes!!
Connor has a plethora of toys to play with and I often sit on the kitchen
floor to keep him company as well. He has brought a great deal of joy and
fun into our family. Back in April I suffered the loss of my fifteen years and
twenty days old Border Collie, Newt. He was my "once in a life time dog."
Connor's future is bright. I plan on training him in Obedience and Rally,
so we can compete as a team together in those dog sports. He is extremely
smart. Learns quickly. He maintains what he learns well and has a super
aptitude for retrieving already.
