Daisy
was one of six in a litter born at the New Rochelle Humane Society. Her
mother Peaches was at the shelter when she was pregnant with her six puppies.
As for breed: Your guess is as good as mine! My son and I went to the shelter
just to see what they had there. My son really wanted a chihuahua puppy and
since I had a dog growing up, I wanted him to have the same special experience
that I had. When we got to the shelter looking for a chihuahua, the person
who works at the shelter told us that they had a litter of eight-week-old puppies
who might be part chihuahua. She told us that they had just recently taken
the puppies away from their mother and they were weaning them so that they
could be adopted out to families. We figured that we might as well take a
look being that we were already there. Well, from the moment we laid eyes on
those 6 cuties, it was love at first sight! We chose Daisy because she had
the biggest ears, a white ring around half of her neck, and the tip of her
tail was white making it look like she dipped it in some paint. Since we took
her home, she has taken over our home and hearts. She even took over the run
of the house from our two cats who instantly fell in love with her once they
figured out what she was.
Daisy is an extremely affectionate dog with the family which consists of
myself, my fourteen-year-old son, and my mother. She loves to lick us and she is a
happy, playful dog. When one of us is not at home, she stays in the front
window standing on the windowsill until we are all home. Her favorite games
are tug-of-war and fetch. She loves her two crates full of stuffed animals
and to chew on her deer antlers. She is probably the smartest dog that I have
ever encountered. She was trained to go to the bathroom outside in less than
one week, which means that she was trained by nine weeks old since she was eight weeks
old when we adopted her.
She is also crate trained and will automatically go and lay down in her house
when she sees signs that we are going out. She is shy toward other people and
will hide behind my legs or want me to pick her up when other people try and
pet her. Two years ago, she also won a contest for fastest tail wagger. We
have taken Daisy on many road trips like Hershey, PA, Lake George, NY,
Washington DC, and Wildwood, NJ. She loves the car and having the wind run
through her ears. As far as breed, I have been told by many people, including
her vet, what they think she is such as chihuahua, mini pincher, rat terrier,
italian greyhound, jack russell terrier, and beagle and I tell them that their
guess is as good as mine. People constantly ask me where they can get one of
her, and I laugh because they think that she is some posh, expensive pet shop
dog because of her unusual look and body. When I tell them that she was born
in a shelter, they cannot believe it. If Daisy had her way, she would want me
to carry her around like a baby all day long, so I'm thinking of getting her a
baby carrier to wear on my body (only joking, but Daisy would probably like it).
