Maggie
is special because she has shown great courage in overcoming her
background and has learned to trust humans and return our love.
She was a puppy mill breeder dog living on a farm and used to
breed for five years. She was kept in a cage and had litter after litter of
puppies until she was rescued by a rescue group. My husband and I adopted her
from this rescue organization. When we adopted her, we changed her name from
Gabby to Maggie, as we wanted to give her a fresh start.
She wouldn't get into a car willingly, didn't know how to go
through doorways and would flatten on the ground if you approached her. Her poor
feet were splayed from standing on wire her whole life, and she was bowlegged as
well because she couldn't stand up straight in her cage. Her teeth were worn
down from biting on wire trying to get out and she had ear mites. But under it
all I knew there was the soul of a beautiful dog.
With a lot of patience, and love on our part for the past
three years we have had her, she has emerged into a strong, courageous, funny
dog. Her nickname is Magster because she is a clown now. Today I saw the true
Maggie. She was enjoying her morning walk with tail up, grin on her face as if
to say I'm free from my cage and lovin' life!
