This
is Izzy. I adopted her when she just a baby and looked like a fuzzy
little ball of fur. For the past eight years, she has been my best friend and
the best dog a girl could ask for - we've had many adventures and much fun
together. She has so much personality and is so smart! One summer, there was
a bad thunderstorm and the local news had cut in to whatever I was watching on
TV with reports of a tornado warning, though the tornado was actually much
further north than our county. Still, it was very windy and thundering loudly,
and I watched Izzy look out the window and then hurry down the hallway to the
bathroom. I waited for a few minutes and then wondered what she was doing in
there, and when I got to the doorway of the bathroom - no Izzy. I called her
name, and her head came peeking out from behind the shower curtain. My smart
girl had figured since there was a tornado warning and the basement door was
closed, the next best safe place was in the bathtub (and if you live in the
midwest, you know this can be true)! Another time, I had a block of cheese
still in its plastic wrapper and a box of crackers sitting on my coffee table.
When I went in the next room to grab a drink and got back, I saw Izzy
stealthily trying to creep back behind the couch, the entire block of cheese
(and plastic wrapper) in her mouth. Needless to say, she didn't get the entire
pound of cheese to eat, though I did break off a little piece for her! Izzy
loves pizza (she knows what the word means and if you ask her if she wants
pizza, she runs to the window to watch for the delivery guy), loves our daily
walks, loves running around at the park, going for car rides, chasing
squirrels and birds, and just hanging out with the pack (myself and my
roommate). Several years ago Izzy started having seizures, but our vet and I
monitor her closely and so far she hasn't needed medication.
Izzy is my best friend, my God-given solace, the best part of my life and I
pray every day that I have many more wonderful years with her!!! And
please... if you're reading this, please encourage your friends and family to
always go to a shelter to adopt before going to a breeder. There are so many
good-natured, lonely dogs just waiting for a permanent home and a family to
love. And it has been my experience that you will never be sorry to take home
and rescue one of those beautiful animals. If I hadn't gone to a shelter
myself, I would never have found Izzy, and my life would have been much poorer for it.
