Peanut
was a birthday gift bestowed on us by good friends, and since then
he has become both a mischief maker and a source of immense comfort and
joy to the family. Peanut is an early riser, eagerly clamoring for his
morning walk before most of us are even awake! But in return, he will
spend long hours simply lying beside us or warming our laps. Sometimes we
swear he's more feline than canine - he strolls along the tops of our
couches lithely, and lounges comfortably for hours, flashing us furrowed
glances when we dare to disturb him. We have all become experts on the
long list of Peanut's fears: balloons, string, larger dogs, squirrels,
baths, and many more. Still, Peanut is fiercely protective when it comes
to his family; when he's not sprawled across our beds, he's keeping guard
near the front window, eyeing every passing stranger with his ears perked.
Peanut does not usually leave his post near the window until all members
of his family have safely returned from work, school, etc. Only then does
he resign from his post, trotting to his toy basket to retrieve a ball for
us to throw. Peanut is our little gift that keeps giving.
