Ringo
is an exceptionally special dog to our family. My father always wanted
a lab and as Ringo was the only light colored dog out of a litter of all black
puppies, he was the one who came home with dad. It took no time at all to
pick a name from him, as dad's favorite band was the Beatles. Ringo grew from
a puppy to a young dog with dad, learning how to shake, sit, roll over and
incredibly, count. Ringo will tell you how many fingers you are holding up
when you ask him, "how many." He brought many days of joy to my father,
taking walks with him, sleeping with him at night and providing hilarious
moments like the time he fell in the lake when he wasn't expecting to. Dad
affectionately called him his handsome boy. Unfortunately dad was only able
to spend a year with Ringo before he passed away.
Although he misses dad, Ringo is incredibly happy living with my brother and
his fellow lab, Baskin. When people first meet Ringo, they remark that he is
unique because he has green eyes and a pink nose. He is very sensitive to
people's feelings and whenever he is in public, the children flock to him to
give friendly pets. They seem to know that in spite of his size, he is an
extremely loving dog. In addition to showing off how handsome he is in
public, Ringo loves to carry around new toys and show everyone he can. He is
so happy when people acknowledge his new toys that not only his tail, but his
whole rear end wags in excitement. He has lost some of the pep he once had as
a puppy and is now content to simply smell every plant in the yard or lay on
the new dog bed he got for Christmas and chew his bones.
Ringo is a great dog to snuggle with at night but because of his size, he and
his brother end up hogging the entire bed. His is also an enabler for Baskin
when it comes to stealing food off the countertops. The two have coordinated
with one another to steal a stick of butter and two cakes off the kitchen
counter. Ringo is a great buddy to other animals, including the pets of our
relatives. He befriends fellow dogs, cats and on one occasion, a hamster.
Most importantly, he was a wonderful companion to Dad and is now to us and we
love him incredibly for all the joy and laughter he brings to our lives.
