This
is my pride and joy, Angus.
I adopted Angus at the tender age of ten weeks old from a no-kill shelter
in my town. He was rescued from a puppy mill-type farm that was known to
sell puppies to a dog fighting operation. I shudder to think of his life
had he not been taken from the puppy mill.
The saying is that you don't pick your dog, your dog actually picks you.
And Angus definitely picked me. As I walked up and down the rows of cages
at the shelter, I noticed a young black puppy that sat quietly just
watching me. The other dogs were excited as I passed by their cages;
jumping and barking. Yet, this pup just calmly watched me. I went over and
opened the cage and he jumped into my arms, licking my face, my hair, my
shirt, everything! All he needed was the opportunity!
He is a great dane mix; I had his DNA profile done so I could deal with
any potential health issues as he grows up. He is a great dog with a
loving personality. He is currently in training to become a therapy dog.
So far so good. He loves life and takes every chance to play.
Angus is now one year old. He has completed 2 of the three obedience
classes he needs to test for his therapy dog certification. He is such a
Great Dane!!! When he runs, his tongue hangs out the side of his mouth,
ears flapping in the breeze. He is a very happy boy and loves everyone he
meets. He is still a big licker! He licks everything in the house: the
front of the dishwasher, the backs of our kitchen chairs, the sliding
glass doors, our jeans, the floor... He has a sweet and loving
disposition. He lays on top my feet when I'm sitting down and leans
against me every chance he gets. I love it!
This is a picture of Angus and his older brother, Max. Max is a
seven-year-old Weimaraner/Black Lab mix. He puts up with the antics of his
younger brother. Max is very patient when it comes to Angus pulling on his
tail and running circles around him outside in an effort to coax Max into
playing. I love this picture of the two of our boys... it shows how
handsome they are and even proves that sometimes Angus can actually sit
still!
