About Us
Charlie, the Dog of the Day
Name: Charlie
Age: Five years old
Gender: Male Breed: Basset Hound
Home: New York, USA

This is my dog, Charlie. He turned five on July 3rd, 2009. He's a Basset Hound, and we live in New York. Charlie's special because he's the sweetest dog you'll ever meet. He loves all people and other animals and all he wants is to be with his family!

He knows some basic tricks, like sit, stay, lay down, shake, and roll over. If you yell "oops" from anywhere in the house, he'll come running to look for food that we dropped. He has the greatest personality- he always has his eye on us- we think he tries to protect us (even though he wouldn't hurt a fly.) He loves other people so much that he'll run around barking when the doorbell rings, but he never barks any other time. He loves playing with other animals... even if they don't want to play with him. When he was a puppy he would chase my cat around trying to play with her until she hissed at him or jumped up to where he couldn't reach.

Charlie a registered therapy dog and me and my mom have worked with him in a camp for children with disabilities. He would play with the kids and really brought some very shy kids out of their shells. If someone is afraid of dogs he won't scare them, he'll just sniff them and then go about following us around. He's also not a very active dog. My mom once tried to take him running and he couldn't keep up with her. If we walk him around the track, he can walk two laps at the most, and then he falls asleep. If you throw something for him to fetch, he usually goes to get it and chews on it, but he doesn't chew furniture or anything he's not supposed to chew. When he's in a playful mood he'll either run around the room to get rid of some extra energy or play tug-of-war with one of us. Charlie's definitely not a water dog. We tried to get him to swim last summer, and he's never set foot near a pool since. He's more of the "tanning in the sun" type.

We went to a dog store called Shake A Paw "just to look." I'd wanted a dog for a while, but my mom and step-dad always said no. But as soon as we saw Charlie, my mom fell in love and managed to convince my step-dad. They brought him home on Halloween as a birthday present for me. He's truly the perfect dog for anyone. (Except a very active family that loves to take their dogs on long mountain walks or swims in the ocean.)

Hi. This is Charlie's owner's friend Jacque and I have a fear of dogs. I just thought that i should add this little paragraph by me so that you would know that Charlie is an extremely calm and sweet dog from the word of someone else's point of view than the owners. There are very few, if any dogs besides my cousin's dog Hershey that I am comfortable being around. The first time I went to Ali's house and we opened the door, I was expecting Charlie to jump on me and lick me, which I dont like, but Charlie just waddled over to me, sniffed my foot and sat down right next to me wagging his tail. I was happily surprised that I wasn't toppled over on the floor with a dog on me, or backed into a corner trying to stay away from him. Charlie is super sweet and fun to be with... and I just thought you should know.
