Missy
came to live with us about three months ago from the Humane Society. She
had been left there with her litter of puppies. As I was strolling the
kennels looking for the dog of my dreams, amongst all the other jumping and
barking dogs sat Missy looking quite haggard and thin from birthing puppies,
with her coat all blown out. She was not looking her best that day. She was
snuggled up to the front of the kennel as close as a dog could get. She sat
quietly and patiently and really caught my eye. I took her out for a walk and
she stayed by my side and was obedient and genuinely happy for the attention.
I would go back several times and walk her before I ended up applying to have
her be my forever friend. I wanted to make sure it would be a good fit.
What's special about Missy is that she has this energy and drive to please and
those awesome brown eyes. I took her to Canine Good Citizen class and even the
instructor was taken with how focused she is and her need to have a job in
life. She quickly learned new things in class and although she does have an
issue with meeting new people, my instructor has encouraged me to hang in
there with her and keep bringing her for more training as she really does well
in class. We start beginning agility next week. We don't know what her past
life was like but she is so comfortable in our home and I am truly in love
with her.
Missy is approximately three or four years old, we don't know for sure. But we do
know you can teach an old dog new tricks. We taught her to shake and this has
been a tremendous tool in getting her to accept new people. As long as you
have a treat in one hand and the other ready to shake, Missy is especially
happy to meet you. Her specialty is catching any and all food in the air. It
doesn't matter how many times we throw a piece of popcorn in the air, she will
catch it. I'd say that's pretty focused.
Missy is my dog of a lifetime!
