This
is my big, beautiful Afghan Hound, Raglan. He and his twin brother,
Xavier, have lived in Oregon with my family for a year and a half now. They
are four years old. Raglan is a shy, sweet boy who has a heart of gold and a
happy-go-lucky attitude. He loves to lay on the sofa and just enjoy life.
Going for rides and getting treats are his favorite pastimes. I had never
had an afghan hound when we decided to adopt these two so I wasn't sure what
to expect of their personality and all that hair!
They are a very aloof, inquisitive breed and the hair definitely takes a lot
of maintenance. Weekly bathing and brushing must be done to maintain that
glorious coat. I spend about four hours per week on coat maintenance per
afghan hound. He is very very shy but affectionate with me, very much a one
person dog. When he is excited, he doesn't run, he bounces, which makes us
laugh! He loves to steal socks and hide them in the cushions of "his" sofa.
He and his brother were rescued from a woman who had over 40 afghan hounds
housed in her barn. After years of neglect they were discovered and rescued
and all have new loving forever homes. Raglan was so incredibly shy that the
rescue facility insisted that he and Xavier had to be placed together. Raglan
has come a long way since his arrival with us. He is learning to trust and
love which is just amazing to see.
