Ginger, the Dog of the Day
Name: Ginger
Age: Seven years old
Gender: Female Breed: Boxer mix
Home: St. Louis, Missouri, USA

Meet Ginger. Ginger is a boxer mix that has the energy and personality of a puppy - and she's seven years old. Ginger was a pound puppy - twice! I went to the humane society to find a friend for my other dog - saw Ginger who was just 1.5 years old at the time and it was love at first sight. She was just so cute! I told the employees at the humane society that I wanted to adopt her - they in turn said that she was already adopted and would be picked up on a Thursday. So I went home - disappointed. I called the humane society the next day and told them that if Ginger was returned that I still wanted her. On the Monday after Ginger went to her new home I received a call from the humane society that Ginger was returned because she peed in the house and had bitten one of her new owners. I adopted Ginger anyway.

I don't know what happened at the other house, but when I brought Ginger home I found out quickly that she was not only house trained she was also crate trained. To this very day if she needs to go out she lets me know by pacing the floor in front of me and if I pay her no attention she starts whining. To keep her safe while she adjusted to her new life we had put up a crate for her to sleep in at night. She was right at home. As for the biting - she never growled or made any attempt to bite me or the other family members. I've had her now for six years and she is simply wonderful. While she's not keen on doing tricks she will sit and lay down on command but that's where the line is drawn. She absolutely loves riding in vehicles. Wherever the sun is hitting the floor she lays in the sun like a cat would and at night she sleeps under a blanket. Her only downfall is that she is a runner so when she's outside she has to be on a cable - since there is no fenced yard for her. But her cable is long enough that she and our other dog can chase each other from one end of the yard to the other. Otherwise she's in the house doing what she does best - sleeping and keeping an eye on things. She's funny, energetic, full of life, and has me wrapped around her paw. I can't imagine my life without her and I can only imagine what would have become of her had I not adopted her.
