After
our beloved Arrow passed on December 19, 2008, I became extremely
depressed. Arrow was twelve years old, and did pass in my arms. My husband and
daughter handled it better that me, but we were definitely miserable.
Everyone said a new dog would be the answer. I thought that could not be the
right thing considering I just buried my one and only. The Guilt at thinking
of another dog made me sick.
Then one day my family gave me every excuse to check out a litter of pups.
"Just to look," they said, "to get out of the house, It will make a nice ride
out to the area since it was 45 minutes one way," and I agreed. The pups are
Alaskan Malamute and Husky. They were gorgeous and the most playful one won my
heart right away.
Of course we came home with him. He is a beautiful boy named Makita (both
after the tools and Stanley Makita, the hockey player). It took a lot of
adjusting, but this bundle of energy and love is now a member of our household
and is considered our son. He is just starting to like walks, tolerates car
rides, loves to chase balls and sometimes gives it up freely. Favorite foods are
apples, cheese and carrots plus he is willing to try anything we eat. He is thirteen
weeks old and he has made us realize that our hearts can love again.
