This
is Annabel Lee, she's a Newfoundland, or a Newfie! Annabel is truly a
gentle giant; no matter where we are, people are drawn to her and want to pet
her. I swear there is a person inside, underneath all that hair and drool!
She knows how to give hugs and loves the water. In fact, if given the chance
she will jump into the jacuzzi if we are filling it up for a bath. Annabel
gets along with all animals and lives with six other dogs and two cats. Annabel
loves chocolate (even though it is forbidden, as it's bad for dogs) and
coffee. One year she figured out how to open the microwave and get a
birthday cake out of it, and by the time we heard her the cake was 1/2 gone!!!
But she's so hard to stay mad at with that sweet, angelic face!
Annabel is my parents' dog (long story) but I brought her back from Germany in
December 2003 because she was living with my sister and not doing so well, so
it was agreed upon that she could return to New Jersey if my dad helped pay
for another dog for my sister. Our flight was delayed and Annabel hadn't had
anything to eat or drink for a long time but she made the long journey home safely.
The tricks she knows are: sit, paw, speak, hugs (she turns her body into you
and gives you a hug), kisses, stay, down... just the usual commands.
She does love the water - she really doesn't have the opportunity to go to the
beach much but when given the chance she loves it. She's been known to sneak
off a few times at home and go to the nearest lake, so my parents have to keep
a close eye on her!
