Sam
resides with his humans and other animal buddies in Fort Worth, TX.
Sam was rescued from the street in front of our favorite Mexican
restaurant. He had multiple open wounds on his head, which I assumed to
be the result of an injury. They turned out to be benign masses. I took
him to the vet, where three masses were removed and he was stitched up.
He looked like "Franken-Sam" for a few months until his scars healed and
the hair grew back. He was a very insecure, hurting, frightened dog when
we took him in. Now he is a big 90-pound happy, "pushy" Shepherd. We
aren't in the habit of putting costumes on our pets, but when my husband
found this miniature cowboy hat, we couldn't resist. He does live in
Texas after all!!
Sam is a great dog. I've never had a German Shepherd before and wasn't
particularly fond of the breed. He's just a big old goober. He loves to
fetch the ball and he has a great long stride when he runs. I sometimes
fondly call him "Gator Head" as he has such a humongous head. He's kind
of needy, therefore pushy. If I am petting or paying attention to one of
the other dogs, Sam magically appears for his "piece of the love pie."
While I sit at my computer, he will come to my right and shove my elbow
up so that I have to stop typing and pet him. He likes to jump up and
put his paws on my shoulders. He's big and strong!!! But he is just
showing love.
Sam is very affectionate and communicative with his whines and barks. He
went from living small and timid when we first took him in to being very
comfortable in our home of many other pets... both cats and dogs. The
cats don't always appreciate his nosiness, and they let him know. He
likes chasing/herding the cats, much to their chagrin. But if they don't
react, he loses interest. He is a great watch dog, and some people don't
come to the door when they hear his bark. That's okay; they are usually
selling something I don't want!! Oh yeah, Sam has "dibs" on the easy
chair in the corner.
