We
got Harley from a local rescue group seven years ago. Now I've had a
number of dogs in my lifetime, but I have to say without a doubt, Harley
is absolutely the best. He has never done anything wrong. Never
chewed up something he wasn't supposed to, never left us a puddle or pile
in the wrong place, etc. He's such a faithful pal without being a pest. He
looks you straight in the eye and his expression lets you know you can
tell him anything and he'll still be there for you with that doggy smile
of his. Harley loves children and will let them tug on him and use him for
a pillow no matter how heavy they are or how warm he gets. It's like he
was so grateful for being rescued he decided to make sure he was the
perfect dog for us.
Harley's favorite thing (besides snoozing on the sofa) is to do carry
chores for us. We discovered this completely by accident. One evening when
my husband stood up his lighter fell to the floor. He didn't see it, but
Harley did. Harley picked up the lighter and followed my husband until he
noticed Harley had something in his mouth. He took the lighter and Harley
wagged his tail so hard and smiled so wide we knew this was something that
made him very happy. Now, nothing pleases him more than to be handed
something (anything!) to carry in his mouth to someone: the remote, a
magazine, a note, a DVD, even keys. One time my husband gave him one of
those bite-sized candy bars (still in the wrapper) to take to me. Guess
what - Harley brought it to me safe and sound (who notices a little dog
drool anyway). Harley and I shared that little tidbit of candy (don't
worry, no chocolate for him).
I've never had a dog like Harley, and I'm sure I'll never find another
like him either. He's my Dog of the Day every day!
