Dixie
lives in Colbert, Georgia. What makes her special is her intelligence. She
has all the drive and energy of a Border Collie but it's the ease and
speed she learns new things is what amazes me. Her Mom has taught her so
many tricks. Her best one is her ability to win your heart.
Dixie was actually an owner surrender. We adopted her at eighteen months
olds. A local Lady placed an ad giving away two Border Collies, a sister
and brother. They had turned out to be more then she could handle. When
we arrived she had them in a 10x10 kennel and Dixie was leaping up to
try and touch my hand. In less then 60 seconds I knew she was going home
with us. At first she was shy and worried, we later found out we were
her third home, but as soon as she realized this was home, her
personality came out. She is intelligent and very active. We have taken
her to several herding clinics where she did well, did better then her
Dad. However, where she has excelled is mastering tricks that her Mom
has taught her. She's learned all the basics: beg, fetch, roll over,
bang play dead, twirl and spin and crawl. Also she's learned many
complicated ones like bashful (covers her eyes with a paws), jump
through a hoop, jumps on my back while I'm on my hands and knees then
sit-up and begs, retrieves named items from the closet and my favorite
- she says her prayers. See the picture below.
She'll do about anything her Mom asks her to do. The only problem she
seems to have is when my wife and I are in separate rooms. She likes to
have us all together. Dixie's been with us a little over 4.5 years now
and I couldn't imagine her not here. She has truly become our Heart Dog.
