Gracie
is a survivor. She was dropped off at a shelter in West Virginia
when she was about four months old. This little girl had one of the worst
cases of mange that the shelter workers had ever seen. She needed a
foster home desperately, and even though we knew little about mange, my
husband and I agreed to foster her. My heart was touched when I met her.
Although her face, legs, and other parts of her small body had no hair on
them and were red and raw from scratching, she looked at me with her sad
brown eyes and gave a whimper of hope. With long months of veterinary care
and lots of loving from her new foster family, Gracie became a spirited,
joyful pup. Soon she was healthy and strong and ready to go into the home
of a new adoptive family. But - how could we ever let her go?
You guessed it! Gracie is the foster doggie we adopted. She has become a
special part of our family and has brought us the gifts of playfulness and
laughter. She has also taught us how to keep hope alive in our hearts.
This sweet dog - who was expected to die - has proven to us that life is
precious and we must live each day to the fullest.
