Annie
is an AKC Certified female red miniature Dachshund. We have had
her since she was eight weeks old and she has been a light in our life!
Annie, like many dogs, has an incredible "sixth sense" and can tell when
we are happy-so she jumps around wagging her tail enthusiastically; when
we're sad she sits on our lap, often climbing up to my chest and kisses
the tears or pain away-when she makes us smile she gets all wiggly-you
can tell that she is so proud of herself for cheering us up!
She has a chronic sinus condition, which we're trying to fix, but she
takes it like a trooper! I also have an illness, which often comes upon
me in the night in the form of mini-seizures and pain. Countless times
Annie has woken me up just prior to one of my "episodes" so that I could
take the medication needed to control it. Annie also completes a 10k
Walk-A-Thon for the Southeastern Guide Dogs every year-raising money for
the training and placement of guide dogs (she's always the smallest dog
there, but doesn't complain about the 7.5 mile walk)!
Like most Dachshunds she is small but very protective. She always alerts
us when someone is at the house-before we even know it. (She doesn't
know that we live in a very safe area, she is just doing her job to
protect us!)
I am working on a children's book series called "The Antics of Annie" to
help children deal with subjects like adoption, illness, fear,
relationships-all things that Annie has inspired me to write about by
observing her own life.
