Oskar
is our baby. We had heard that Scotties can be a bit of a handful
and Oskar is no exception. Going for a "walk" in the neighborhood is
more aptly called "going for a sniff." The humans walk very slowly while
Oskar darts in random directions, stopping, sniffing. He graduated from
two training courses and won a prize for his hilarious trick routine,
but good leash skills are not his forte. If we come across a big stick
or even a small branch, he'll drag it along proudly, growling to
himself. We live in Salt Lake City where there are beautiful hiking
trails close to our house. Hiking off-leash in the snow is bliss for our
little man. He'll go full-steam-ahead for hours without appearing tired
or bothered by the snow that cakes up in his fur. He always finds the
deepest snow to leap around in and will chase anything that slides along
the ground including snowballs and cross-country skis. When Oskar was a
puppy there was a lot of construction going on at our house, so he has a
particular fondness for anyone who happens to be near a pick-up truck or
is carrying tools. But, really, he likes everyone! At the end of the day
if he has excess energy, he'll go in to "maniac dog" mode for a few
minutes, running around the house as fast as he can. Then he's ready to
cozy up on the bed with my husband and me, sleeping longer and harder
than either of us. He's truly an inspiration!
