Chance, the Dog of the Day
Name: Chance
Age: Three months old
Gender: Male Breed: Australian Shepherd
Home: East Hampton, Connecticut, USA

My husband John and I got Chance for a companion for our other Australian Shepherd named Teddybear. It is kind of a sad story. Teddybear's sister, Kally, who was also an Australian Shepherd, passed away about a month ago. It broke all of our hearts, and we miss her very much! Since Teddybear has had a companion ever since he was born, Kally's passing hit him very hard. He became very depressed, and he had no desire to eat, play, or do anything. We knew that we could never replace our special "Kally girl," but we knew in our hearts that we had to get another dog for our beloved Teddybear. We were afraid that he otherwise would become more depressed as time went on.

Then one day, we came across Chance and fell in love with him instantly! When we brought him home, Chance and Teddybear did not hit it off right away, in fact Teddybear wanted nothing to do with him for the first few days. But, as time has gone on, they have become the best of friends. Chance's puppy antics get us laughing so hard at times, it makes our insides hurt! The way he runs around after his favorite tennis ball, and leaps around as if he has springs built right into his little feet, is definitely a comical sight to see! He and Teddybear run and play together in the yard, tumble around, and chase each other as if they are playing tag! They are so cute and so funny to watch! Teddybear is so tolerable with Chance, letting him bite at his tail, and at his long chest hair, and he never seems to really get upset about it. I think that Teddybear has decided that he is glad that we brought Chance home. I know that my husband and I are sure glad we did! Even though we miss our Kally girl, and she can never be replaced, Chance has already filled our lives with so much joy, and is definitely filling our hearts with much love and many happy moments and memories. So it is true, some stories do have happy endings!!!
