About Us
Duchess, the Dog of the Day
Name: Duchess
Age: One year old
Gender: Female Breed: Yellow Labrador Retriever
Home: Evergreen, Colorado, USA

Duchess comes from a rarer breed variation called "pointing labs." Since the pointing gene is recessive, the numbers of these dogs are still pretty small (although growing yearly). Although she hasn't been field trained yet, she shows some remarkable skill (she already takes hand signals from land and water, and she points without any formal training). I have high aspirations for Duchess: She will take her canine good citizen next year, and we're still in obedience. Ultimately, I will try and train her to be a therapy animal. She's one busy puppy.

Of course, I love Duchess whether she is just sleeping in front of the fire or avidly in pursuit of a tennis ball. She has the sweetest temperament and has enriched my life so much. I can't imagine what I would do without her.
