Belle, the Dog of the Day
Name: Belle
Age: Two years old
Gender: Female Breed: Bluetick Coonhound
Home: Summit, New Jersey, USA

My name is Belle and I'm a two years old. I grew up somewhere in West Virginia (or so I'm told), and was rescued from a West Virginia pound by a Coonhound Rescue group. They brought me to New Jersey, where I lived for two months with nine other coonhounds, hoping that someone would adopt me. My family tells me they searched petfinder looking for a collie to adopt, but stumbled on my picture and decided right then and there that I was the dog for them. I was very thin when I went to live with them, but I've put on twelve pounds and look great!

When people first meet me they usually think I'm a mix of German short-haired pointer and who knows what else, but I'm a purebred Coonhound, bred to tree raccoons and then howl until the hunter catches up to me. At first my family thought I didn't howl, but once I settled in I corrected that misapprehension quickly. I have the most beautiful "bawl" as its called, which sounds like a foghorn. If I start howling in the house the piano starts to vibrate, and the neighbors can hear me even with the windows closed. We have a park across the street so I have lots of room to run, and I especially like going to the dog park, where I can play with lots of other dogs, including two other blueticks! I'm pictured out on the porch, which is my favorite place to rest when the weather is nice. This is the life, let me tell you.
