Hi! My name is Sammie and do I have a story for you! My life began in a place where all I was used for was having babies. When my babies came they presented one of my grown daughters as the mother to the litter. You see, I was very sick! I had thyroid problems, food allergies and a terrible infection on my tummy and teats due to a reaction of all the litters so close together. After my babies kept dying, I was taken to place and left there with my grown daughter. We weren't needed anymore. Well, my daughter found a home alright because she was healthy and pretty, but who would want me?!?! Time was running out for me. The place I was at was crowded and word was given to start 'putting dogs down' in order to make room for the new ones! I was pretty scared because I knew that no one would want an old, sick dog like me! I stunk to high heaven, hardly had any hair and I scratched and scratched until I bloodied myself! So no one would want me...

Boy! Was I wrong. A lady drove 2.5 hours to get me. She said she was with Westie Rescue of Missouri. They opened the door of the shelter and I never looked back. I got right in the car and said "Hit it!". After seeing a vet and was given a nice grooming, I just slept and slept. After all, it was the first time I had a little peace and quiet and was given the medical attention I needed!

After a month I was on the road to recovery and looked somewhat like a healthy Westie. With lots of tears, I was given gifts, kisses and really tight hugs. I was then put in a car where another lady and her husband drove and drove and drove some more. Finally I arrived in a place called virginia and a lovely woman and man were waiting for me. They also had another dog with them - one that looked like me! (only way prettier!). Well, that was eight months ago and I've been with this family ever since (and they told me I'm never leaving!). They have loved me, cuddled me, trained me and loved me some more. They have seen that I was given the right medicine and food to help me get better. As you can see in the photos, I really have come a long way!

I hope by your reading this, that you too can see that we older dogs are worth loving and with the right medicine and food, we can blossom into the dogs we know we can be if you would just give us a chance! My new mom and dad love me to pieces and pieces and they still keep in touch with the lady from the rescue who came and saved my life that summer day. I play with my new sister, Brogan every day and sometimes we actually get into mischief together! I feel like a youngster these days. And if I don't say so myself, I think I'm pretty cute too!

I hope my daughter found a good home like I did...

       Sammie
