About Us
Shasta, the Dog of the Day
Name: Shasta
Age: Three years old
Gender: Female Breed: Australian Cattle Dog
Home: Bay Area, California, USA

Shasta is one special girl. Shasta was found as a stray and placed in a shelter. When her time was almost up, a breeder specializing in Australian Cattle Dog rescues took her in and fostered her until we found her on CattleDog.com in their dog rescue site.

She is the most awesome Queensland Blue! Since joining our family, we've helped her overcome her shyness and fear of strange things through exposure of everything and anything. We take her everywhere with us, including when we go shopping. She's a regular customer at The Gap, The Pottery Barn and Neiman Marcus to name a few places. I even had one gentleman come up to me at a store and tell me that Shasta is one of the best behaved dogs he's ever seen. Shasta also would accompany to work, sleeping and chewing her toys underneath my desk while I worked. My thought is that a well-behaved dog gets more opportunities to do things with their owners in the daily routine of every day life.

We work with Shasta on obedience training, and for the last few months she's been training in agility. Her favorite obstacle is racing through the curved tunnels. She whips through them like a cyclist banking the corners in a velodrome. Her favorite place in the whole wide world is going to the dog park where she can run and play with other dogs on the beach and on the trails. It's truly beautiful to see such happy dogs play with each other with so much zest for life.
